The Pocket Pal children's toy has the purpose of assisting and developing specific needs of children ages 8-12 months. More specifically, this stuffed shark helps these children in assisting the development of fine motor skills through the concept of taking things in and out of a container. In this case, small fish can be taken in and out of the shark toy's mouth, This concept will help children as they begin to require control of their fingers, hands, and wrists. Additionally, children within this age range begin to develop hand-eye coordination and learn spatial concepts (inside, outside, next to, on top of). This concept is important because infants 12-18 months of age can further develop and refine those motor skills, using the action of dumping and filling containers.

This toy was created using materials such as the face and backs of knit cotton fabrics,

cotton yarn for crocheted details, and polyfill for stuffing the toy.

The newspaper prototype is completed, and the wrapping of plastic and clear tape is in process.

The Shark paper prototype is completely wrapped in clear tape. Orange marks are where I then cut the tape, and where the seamlines go when creating the 2D pattern pieces, and later on, sew.
